Peace World. Peep the latest video from the youth I worked with this past summer at Covenant House Washington (CHW) in Southeast, DC. ‘Losing It’, produced by Substantial, finds this group of pre-teens and teenagers rhyming and singing about how “Losing somebody you’ve been close to is one of life’s hardest trials.”

I have worked with CHW since 2007 and have been blessed with the opportunity to worked with countless teens over the years who have participated in my MCing 101 Workshop. Through these workshops, they are exposed to a brief history of Hip Hop Culture and focus mainly on developing skills in MCing, 1 of Hip Hop’s original 4 elements. They also learn basic skills in Garageband & ProTools.

More about CHW’s Prevention Services program below:
Our Prevention Services Program offers D.C. inner city youth, grades 5-9, after school and summer programming based in principles of personal responsibility and growth, social and civic consciousness, and positive decision making. Most of these principles are developed through creative outlets and tools.

This summer, the theme of the seven week enrichment program was P.L.A.Y. (Power in Learning About Yourself), where youth learned the power in being just who they are!
